The late Middle Ages and early Renaissance were times of increasing artistic and scientific light, but the spiritual state of Europe was as dark as ever. John Wycliffe, the Morning Star of the Reformation, shone the first ray of light in the 1300s, but it wasn’t until the 1500s that any real change happened. And in the 1500s, it did happen! Martin Luther lit Europe on fire, driving away the darkness of the Roman Catholic Church and forever changing the history and form of Christianity.
November 10, 1483
Martin Luther is born in Eisleben, Germany.
1501
Martin Luther enters the University at Erfurt, excelling in both the classics and Medieval philosophy.
He later joins an Augustinian monastery instead of finishing his schooling.
October 31, 1517
Martin Luther posts his 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg church.
1521
Holy Roman Emperor Charles V summons Martin Luther to the Diet of Worms. Martin Luther refuses to recant his beliefs.
1546
Martin Luther dies.
